Trip to Cabot 2-9-08

Rosepedal and I headed up to Cabot to see my mother. We stayed off
the Super Slab as much as possible by following Hwy 67 up to Benton.
I found a little highway on google that jagged over to I-65 coming up
from Pine Bluff. I'd planed to hit it and by pass I-30 through Benton and
into Little Rock. I buzzed up and down Hwy 183 a couple of times, but
never found the road. I finally gave up and took I-30.
On the way back, I planned to take the Pine Bluff exit through Little Rock
and try to find the road I wanted from that direction. I took Dixon road
west, but hit I-30 too soon at Scott Hamilton Drive.
I'm going to find that stinking road. I'll get back on google and do sat.
imagery if I have to.

Here is mighty Vic, all loaded up and ready to go.

We were going to be on the road a 9:00 a.m. Note the reading on my chronometer, taken
a few minutes before departure. Almost 11:00

I didn't stop for pics on the way up, but did get some on the way back.

I stopped on the I-440 bridge over the Arkansas river to get these shots. The wind was really
whipping. You don't notice how badly the bridge sways when you're driving over it. I wasn't
real comfortable stopped up there. I was glad to get moving again.

This the the bank of the Arkansas river from the I-440 bridge.

OK, my next shot is also from a bridge. This is the Hwy 67 bridge over the Ouachita river,
just south of Benton. Man! I'd love to have that house overlooking the river.

Here is a shot straight down the river.

Between Malvern and Hope, the land gets low and flat. With all of the rain we've had, the
ditches and ponds were all full. There was some interesting vegetation growing in the woods
along the road. I stopped to get a few pics.

As you can see, the road bed is raised above the ground on both sides. It's straight for miles.

Here is a shot of that strange plant. I know I've seen it growing in people's yards. But it
looks out of place here in the woods.

It's look tropical to me.

Just a few miles from the plants, we crossed this old iron bridge.

There was no place to stop on the bridge, so I pulled around to a boat launch area under
it to get some pics.

I decided to get a shot of Big Vic parked under it.

Here's the last shot of the Iron bridge.

Here is an old train depot. It's not in Hope. At first I couldn't remember which town it was in.

Fortunately, there is a sign. It Prescott, AR. Elevation 308 ft above mean sea level.

We got back about 3:30. It took 5 ½ hours without stopping for lunch.
We did make one gas stop in Arkadelphia. (Oldman, note spelling please.)
We left Cabot at about 10:00 a.m. With temps in the upper 40s. When we
got back to Texarkana, The NOAA website and the weather channel had the
temp at 71. It felt colder to me and RosePedal.
I'll post a map with mileage as soon as I figure it out.

Nice pics, glad to hear ya moms doing pretty good. I've been passing that old train station since 1949!! We used to go to Bluff City about every other week end when I was growing up. I really like that area of Ar. Maybe we can ride up that way some time and I'll get ya lost on some back roads Smiley. That would make a good all day ride some Sat.
